I love Ignacio Estrada's quote (right) that states " If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn." I believe the days of stoic/passive learning and instruction has past. In today's age of technology and social media, teachers have a lot to compete with when it comes to gaining students' attention and respect. If we aren't willing to give a little here and there to adjust our lesson plans to include all learning styles and student interest, we should be ready to accept our own failure in professional evaluations when the student performance isn't meeting our SMART Goals. However, I feel that as professionals we have reached this understanding and have begun the daunting task of enhancing our lessons with technology, hands-on activities, small group assignments, visual anchors, and personal learning inventories or surveys. Differentiated Instruction is the result of thorough planning that utilizes technology and teaching strategies that result in the success of every student. When carried out correctly, both students and teachers reach desired goals.
